Other than the festive buzz of October, nothing surprised me more than seeing Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill return with a brand-new season on Netflix. As someone who mostly relies on OTT platforms and Instagram reels to discover new anime, I was honestly shocked (and thrilled) to see it quietly drop a Season 2 premiere.

The only downside? No binge-watching this time. I’m stuck waiting for Tuesdays like the rest of the world, and honestly, I’m not complaining.

Back on the journey and in Trouble Already

Season 2 opens right where we left off, Mukohda, Fel, and Sui continuing their laid-back adventure toward the northern forests. It doesn’t take long before danger and dinner find them again. They run into venomous tarantulas, but Fel zaps them out in an instant (as expected from a legendary Fenrir), but it turns out these tarantulas have ridiculously hard shells, even for him. Mukohda is left scratching his head, about storage management, wondering what to do with a pile of crunchy, poisonous spider meat.

Meanwhile, Mukohda’s soft spot for Sui triggers some adorable jealousy from Fel, who tries to hide it behind his pride. Of course, all is forgiven once dinner is served. After all, as Fel puts it, “I ran all day today with the two of you on my back!” So, in a way, he deserves it! And with that, Mukohda gets to cooking.

The Dish of the Episode: Gyoza from Orc General Meat

Here’s the recipe, Mukohda style:

A character joyfully presents a large, perfectly cooked gyoza on a plate, with a cheerful expression, surrounded by lush greenery.

“First, finely chop all the vegetables. Then add ginger and garlic paste to the ground orc meat, plus soy sauce, sake, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Since you can’t taste-test raw meat, you just have to trust your seasoning. Knead everything well, mix in salted cabbage and chives, wrap the filling neatly, and pan-fry until golden. Add a little flour-water mix, cover, and steam. Once it sizzles, drizzle sesame oil – and voilà, perfectly crisp gyoza!”

The gyoza looked heavenly, mouthwatering, perfectly pleated that have Fel and Sui drooling. But before they can finish, the smell attracts an unexpected guest a pixie dragon!

The New Companion with a Big Appetite :

Don’t get fooled by the appearance of this tiny dragon, as he is over 100 years old but talks like a cheeky teen. He doesn’t waste time creating mystery around him and quickly reveals himself just to snag a taste of the gyoza. And like everyone else in this show, one bite is all it takes to become a loyal follower. Like Fel and Sui before him, he quickly decides to become Mukohda’s familiar because where else would you get tasty meals in that world? Honestly, Mukohda is a magnet for gluttonous creatures.

Naming him, however, is another story. After a few hilarious attempts, Mukohda settles on the name Dora-chan (short for Doragan, “dragon,” and chiisai, meaning tiny). Given that he once tried naming Fenrir “Pochi,” this was very much expected!

A Trip to the Guild (and an Accidental Quest)

When Mukohda heads to the local Guild to register his new familiar, he meets Master Rodolfo, who looks like a lumberjack straight out of a forest RPG. He explains that monsters in the northern forest are becoming dangerously aggressive, and it’s disrupting their local trade. Turns out those bunch of hairy, venomous spiders’ silk is vital for the town’s textile trade, but now, it’s becoming hard for them to get that.

Of course, Fel had already blasted them to oblivion before the Guild even asked for help. Typical. What would’ve been a full-scale top-tier mission for others was just another “Tuesday” for this trio. A dangerous mission turned into another “accidental success”, and the prize – Priceless spider silk and shells that are worth gold, and apparently, the spider meat tastes like crab – “no, even better,” according to Mukohda.

Fel and Dora-chan are immediately hyped for a “crab feast,” and Mukohda gets to cooking again.

Dora-chan’s Welcome Party

The menu this time:

Crab omelette, fried rice, mock Caesar salad, and spring rolls.

Everything sounds simple, but looks ridiculously delicious. Fel praises the omelette’s sweet-and-salty flavour, Sui enjoys her salad, and Dora-chan falls in love with the spring rolls. We also get a cute reveal:l Dora-chan had actually been following Mukohda since City of Karelina, drawn in by the smell of his cooking. Basically, this dragon risked his life just to chase some tasty food…relatable!

The whole feast feels like a reward for surviving the day, wrapped up with a hot bath for Mukohda and Sui only because Fel and Dora-chan prefer food comas over hot springs. And just as he’s drifting off, Mukohda realises…he’s forgetting something important! (Remember those heavenly goddesses!)

Next Episode Tease: The Earth Dragon

The episode ends with a small teaser for what’s to come. Mukohda plans to visit Dungeon City following Guild Master Rodolfo’s advice to meet the city’s guild master – Elleland, an expert who might help process the Earth Dragon that Fel hunted back in Season 1.

Looks like the adventure continues, and honestly, I can already smell the next meal.

Final Thoughts – A cozy start with just the right spice.

Episode 13 of Campfire Cooking Season 2 returns with everything fans love : laid-back humour, deliciously detailed food scenes, and our favourite foodies trio, now quartet! The animation looks clean, the banter hits, and the food shots? We can’t forget the food ASMR here! Chef’s kiss.

The episode doesn’t rush and keeps its warm yet comic energy – it simmers, letting small moments shine between comedy and cuisine.

The episode closes with Salt and Pepper by Chelmico – playful, catchy and breezy track that fits the show’s cheerful and spicy energy. Personally, I liked it even more than the opening, “Yummy Goodday” by CENT.
