The Plot :
“The Apothecary Diaries” transports viewers to the captivating imperial court modeled after ancient China during the Tang Dynasty. Where our main protagonist Maomao (17 y/o) was living
her peaceful life with her apothecary father until one day, when she was looking for dyeing herbs in far lands got abducted and sold as a court servant to the emperor’s inner palace. Despite trying to keep a low profile, as she don’t want to invite more trouble, she put in the effort as a servant until fate intervened, and she learned that the emperor’s two infants were seriously ill.
Being a former Apothecary, she just couldn’t ignore such sight and decides to step in and find a cure and help in her own way. With her quick thinking, she managed to save one infant by sending a note to high consorts Gyokuyou. The unique way she offers help, catches the eye of Jinshi- a palace official. Upon seeing her knowledge and quick-wit, Gyokuyou with help of Jinshi promotes her as one of her personal attendants giving her the role as a poison tester.
With time, Jinshi learns that she also possesses a vast knowledge of medicine & poison and her body is also resistant to poison to some extent.
Seeing her fascination with poison, and herbs and her knowledge as an apothecary, he offers her to work at Palace’s pharmacy as bait so that he could have her help in solving the puzzles of mysterious illnesses and other unraveling mysteries in the inner courts.
Using her street-smart personality, sharp wit and knack for noticing minute details, apart from her vast knowledge, she ended up becoming great assets for the empire.
