Winter has already started & I just finished watching this heart-warming but icy rom-com anime. I didn’t know I would find something good to feel after Skip & Laofer. The workplace background and all characters feels so warm and compliment the story. Nevertheless it has become one of my comfort anime now.
‘The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague‘ was started of as a Manga series. It was written and illustrated by Miyuki Tonogay and serialized on Square Enix’s Gangan Pixiv manga website in July 2019. As of now, it has 8 volumes and in 2023 it got its anime adaptation as “Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi” under Animation Production Liber & Zero-G and Illustration (Anime) is done by Kanou Miyako
What more interesting I found about this anime is that it doesn’t have a supernatural plot but supernatural characters that live their ordinary lives as office employees. They do what an office employee are supposed to do yet they find their joy in their day to day life. So, it’s fresh take in office romance after Wotakoi, as for me at least .
The plot of anime roam around Himuro who is descendant of yuki-onnas living in modern times and just joined his new job. His inherent powers are connected to his emotional state and therefore when he gets emotionally overwhelmed, he ends up causing blizzards or popping snowmen and building igloos. His body also get shrink when he comes in contact with too much heat. So, he constantly have to watch out his surrounding for not causing any harm especially to plants & cats! Moreover our guy has secret crush on his colleague, Fuyutsuki, who is kinda distant but kind lady and unintentionally making him cause blizzards & ice-man around.
Moreover, Fuyutsuki, despite being a distant person, is always curious about everyone around her and especially Himuro. Her kind, caring and curious nature gives of cool first impression to our Ice-Guy & then starts the main storyline of both of our sweet leads with their other equally quirky colleagues.
Although it’s kinda slow but that adds charm to it’s story and as it progresses we witness the gradually evolving relationship of Himuro & Fuyutsuki alongside others beautifully crafted characters that have their own brewing love. This winter this is a must-watch and S1 only has 12 episodes that feel like nothing when its aura takes over you. Its beautifully illustrated chapters mesmerized you.
Although I feel a bit disappointed at the end as I was hoping to see some progress on Himuro- Fuyutsuki relationship but even 12 episodes don’t do justice to our curiosity. They seems closer in between the story but show kinda drifted from it’s original plot near the end without actually giving us some rom-com treats. Nevertheless, it only make me more eager to wait for S2 and I’m ready to be patient as this manga definitely deserve some exploration.
However, there is not much confirmation about the S2 adaptation as it hasn’t received the much-awaited response & love from international & domestic audiences. But it slowly gaining popularity and there are possibilities as S1 only covers up to Vol. 3. If we go by the news, this Manga is still getting semi-regular updates and is quite active among fans, so there is a probability that it get renewed for S2 in 2024.
